What are we interested in producing and marketing?

Smiths Medical offers market-leading solutions in the following major areas: Anaesthesia & Critical Care, Safety Solutions, Pain & Temperature Management and Medication Delivery.

These cover everything from Airway Management, Respiratory Care, Pain Management, Temperature Management, Infusion, Vascular Access, Assisted Reproduction and Patient Monitoring.

Many of the products within our extensive range can also be applied to the military, industrial and veterinary fields.

Would we be interested in your idea?

Very few new products ideas are revolutionary, but simply an improvement or an additional size or type of an existing product. Evolutionary products are just as important, if not more so than the rare revolutionary product concept.

What would Smiths Medical do?

Smiths Medical would evaluate the potential for development of your idea. This process could take several months. In the first instance we would like to receive only non-confidential (general) information about your idea unless it is already in the public domain e.g. published patent application.

Because we are one of the largest manufacturers of medical devices in the world, you will appreciate it is highly possible that we may already be developing a similar product ourselves. Accordingly, please tell us what the purpose of your invention is, what problem it solves, etc.

We recommend you file a patent application before you tell us what the idea is in order to protect us both. If you have a published patent, please state the number below.

If your idea is of interest to us, we will send you a "Confidentiality Agreement" which states we will keep the confidential information secret whilst we conduct market research to determine both the clinical need for and commercial value of your invention.
